Mission Statement
Teachers teaching teachers to teach.
The RATA Teacher Support is a group of trained New Zealand teachers committed to encourage, equip and inspire untrained teachers in developing countries, so that they can confidently teach children entrusted to them with excellence, professionalism and passion.
Our vision is to teach untrained teachers who are teaching children in classrooms of the world how to run an effective classroom, how to teach numeracy and literacy. We want children to be educated so they can break the poverty cycle. We are training their teachers. If you are inspired to join us on this life changing adventure please follow the application process below. You are welcome to speak with any RATA teacher who has gone before to get a feel of what you will do and how a RATA trip will forever change your world view and even your teaching practice back here in New Zealand.
If you are interested in joining us on a RATA trip, we would love you to enquire more and apply with us below.
One of our directors or Dr Cheryl Doig will phone your referees and contact you personally. Then we will make a time for an informal face to face meeting before any commitment by both parties is made to a RATA project. Again if possible we would ask you to come to the Annual Conference in July in Cambridge where a lot of our team planning is done. If this is not possible we will connect you with a team member for a “Heads up”.
Applicants need to be aware they pay their own airfares and personal expenses. Rata places a huge emphasis on working as a team for a common goal to meet our Mission Statement. Once we have received your application, contacted your referees and met with you, we will let you know if RATA is mutually beneficial for both of us.
"RATA will do all it can to inform, equip and prepare RATA participants on its trips however RATA does not accept responsibility for any personal grievances incurred due to illness, loss of luggage, or a feeling of a RATA trip not meeting a participants expectations."

| We began new work in Ghana, working alongside three schools filled with students eager to learn and with little or no resources and limited trained teachers. One school is constructed of wooden planks with gapping holes. Children sit five to a table sharing a book. |
India |

| We took a team of four people from New Zealand and worked in the foothills of the Himalayas with teachers from six schools under the umbrella of one organization. These schools are in mountain villages where some children have to walk 3 hours a day to attend. |

| The RATA New Zealand teachers will fly to CapeTown with a planned stop over. In CapeTown we will revisit our favourite tourist destinations and as always we will stay in the suburb of Observatory and drink the marvelous Horlicks milkshakes at OBS café. |
